Site update

I haven’t had much work lately so been working on my webpages. I wrote this before and the socializer plug in popped up and wanted me to do a bunch of stuff to post to Facebook and twitter so I did and it would not close and let me publish so I reloaded it lost everything I wrote. I removed the plugin..

I worked on the Gospel Principles files and fixed the video and talk links. 2026 went though the files again and Church IT has messed up all the links to videos and articles I had linked on the church website again… I removed all the gospel principles files and only kept the comment files because it was too much work to fix them all. Some if you don’t have ?lang=eng on the end of the link it doesn’t work.. they changed /study/ to /study/ensign/ or /study/conference /, /study/liahona/, /media-library/video/ besides changing lds.org to www.churchofjesuschrist.org when they did that in 2019. www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/scriptures?lang=eng now used to be http://scriptures.churchofJesusChrist.org or lds.org for a while lds.classic.scriptures/ and can not link to a verse any more. Though if you have marked the scriptures in the Gospel library app and are logged in to the www.churchofjesuschrist.org site it will show your marks when you view the scriptures. I had to remove thousands of scripture links when they did that in 2019 across the salvation pages and gospel principles files. I added menus to the GPC Gospel Principles Commentary files, cleaned up some spacing problems and other stuff left over from removing the scripture links. Styled the Scriptures and mentions to God/Jesus to be different. Was a lot of work as there are 58 pages of them. I had to change every video link and test it see if it was working, some did but had changed slightly so I change the URL before it quit working. Some were giving page not found errors and I had to search for the video to fix the link. .

I added some content to the Second Coming of Jesus Christ and the Millennium following page an linked the relevant GPC files to the section. I have one recent video of President Dallin H. Oaks speaking in Conference about preparing for the Second coming. I have been looking for more but have not found any. The world is a bit scary right now.

I have been doing a lot of CSS changes, nothing you will notice if you are not a mobile 📱 web browser. I learned how to set up light and dark modes in conjunction to the mobile code. I added flex block to the HTML help files and explained about it. https://scottsworld.info/html_help.htm

The weather pages are mostly working, still some tag issues with Cumulus Tags and it doesn’t do as much as Weather Display did but it kept freezing up and the the author disappeared from the support pages so I switched to Cumulus MX . This is the third weather program I have used and each one is different though Cumulus MX works completely different. Ambient and Weather Display read the data from my Davis station, processed tags in the files and uploaded pages with the data in the files.

Took a while and they don’t really tell you, I assumed it worked like the other two. What Cumulus MX does the files themselves have tags and it uses a java script in the pages to read json data files which it uploads and fill the data displayed from that once it has been uploaded. You don’t have to upload the pages over and over, just the json files and the moon image, which shows phases. There is a java script for that too.

I need to move my website to another server. Ionos my host sucks badly. They screwed up my genealogy program TNG The Next Generation of Genealogy Sitebuilding, a dynamic database software. It was showing the code instead of processing the PHP. Support has no idea what they are doing, there solution was to fix it so it showed an error message instead of the code. They only support PHP for WordPress which is all they know, it doesn’t work right for any where else, including TNG, my sitemap Generator ran when I first got there but hasn’t since. I can do PHP images in my weather page but that that doesn’t work either. I had to yell at them because they did a redirect and it was only showing my blog instead of the whole html site. Their AI support chat knows more about it than the support people. But the AI can only chat.

Speaking of AI have used it to fix some things, though it is 50-50 they help or make it worse. Google Gemini was guessing at fixes. ChatGTP has been better. It wanted me to install CODEX but I have not been able to get it to run. Gemini Produced the logo image for my Sewing machine business. I tried ChatGPT but it said it was busy creating other images for people and would get to mine in a couple hours.. It never did. Gemini did it it reasonably fast with several versions which I had it change things until I was satisfied with it.

ChatGTP fixed my Color page I had tried in HTML but it was really huge and would not load. One afternoon I talked to ChatGTP and it wrote a page with a java script that after a few iterations and instructions from me became the 2048 Color picker, you can click on any color you want and it will give you the code in hex and RGB for your CSS. It also changes the background of the page to the color you select, it did that entirely on its own.

I got my Woodward page to work with a little help which put me on the right track, there was one too many 0 in the margins for the container so the browser ignored it. What drove me nuts for years, it only affected this one page, the others all worked. Everything was justified to the left edge of the page and would not move no mater what I tired. Stuff that was centered like the header, centered but stuff like the lists and everything else was stuck on the left side. Adding padding and left margins to the list and everything else I tried didn’t work.

ChatGPT helped me rewrite the Cumulus MX pages, they were ok but had some errors and would not size, they were fixed widths too wide for mobile. I was adding blank Table header lines over my TH to give a space and it told me that was old school HTML brute force… Ok, so I learned HTML in 4.1 and HTML5 is some what different.. Showed me how to add padding to the top of the CSS for the TH so it had space above it. It was pretty obvious once it told me but I had not thought of it.. I knew how to do it the harder way.

HMTL 4 did not have CSS so you had to use the HTML code to do everything. Now your HTML provides the structure for the page and the CSS does everything else. Think of it that HTML is the frame of your house and everything else you see from the walls to the paint color and the floor inside and outside of the house is CSS. From the look, to the positioning of elements, fonts, colors, spacing. For instance my menu on top of the HTML pages is CSS and java code. It does not work or display right with out the CSS and javascript. AI has helped me fix some things with the menu that, for instance, long menus would need to scroll and it would scroll the page behind the menu instead of the menu. It takes code for the menu to stay where it is and not scroll with the page.

I added a NOAA radio element to the Weather page and for some unknown reason it screwed up the whole page lay out. It should not have, but it wanted to be way too wide and I could not get it to shrink. ChatGPT helped me with that and set the page as flex box, it took a week or more to get that to work right. With out the flex box code the page is one long column. It drops to one column for mobile display. Actually I started with Gemini AI and it made matters worse because it was guessing at fixes, I wasted several evenings trying that.. I switched to ChatGPT and it helped me fix it. In 2026 AI is still pretty new and still in its childhood, it is not a mature product yet.

A Deam I had of running for office.

Several months ago I had a dream I was running for office and had all these ideas. I wrote down notes in the dark on a sticky note. I found the note today, try reading your handwriting months later that you wrote in the dark.

  • Term limits, an amendment to limit both the Federal House of Representatives and Senate to Two, four year terms.
  • Balanced budget, the budget must be balanced or they don’t get paid.
  • Flat tax of 10% or less on income over the poverty level.
  • get rid of BATF and the USDA
  • Farms should be for Farming, not building houses on or solar panels
  • Eliminate the Inheritance tax.
  • break up multi national companies that are controlling far to much power
  • stop companies like Black Rock from buying up houses and the turning them in to rentals.
  • Get rid of daylight savings.

Do I even need to argue for Term limits? I think we can all agree on it. People staying in congress so long that they die there is unacceptable. There are people who have been in office as long as I have been alive and I will be 62 in a couple weeks. Some of them are so senile they should be in a care home instead of voting on legislation they not read.

Which brings up another issue omnibus that includes a bunch of stuff that should not be passed. These are mostly written by unknown people in their staffs. If a bill can not be passed on its own merits it should not be passed. Every bill should be a single issue. People who supposed to represent US who vote against bills like Voter ID which 83% or more of all people approve of should be voted out of office.

We have not had a budget since Obama was in office, they started passing continuing resolutions and automatically increasing what they spent with no regard to anything. This is how we went from 10 trillion before Obama was in office to 20 trillion by they time he left to almost 40 trillion today. Instead of a balanced budget they keep increasing the deficit level every year. DODGE showed the amount of waste is incredible. We were paying for huge office buildings where no one worked. UASID was funneling money to non government enties which then funded socialist candidates for office and were also sending money to our enemies. And we are seeing states like Minnesota, and California have wasted billions in tax payer money.

Where is all the money they are spending coming from? They printing it because countries like China would not loan us more money because we are widely known to be irresponsible with spending it. Under Obama we went from AAA to AA national credit rating, and it has only gotten worse since. We are spending 40% more than the national Gross Domestic Production, it is not sustainable. We have inflation because they are printing money to cover spending we can not afford.

We are loosing our farm land because of the inheritance tax which descendants can not afford and have to sell the farm or other assets. Then we build houses and solar farms on land that used to grow crops. Now we are importing food from other countries. We have had listeria outbreaks from vegetables from Mexico which were watered with unclean water.

In Colorado where I grew up in the early 80s there was an early frost before the crops were harvested and they were destroyed. This was a major problem because then the farmers could not pay the loans they took out to buy sprinklers which the USDA made them buy because they are more efficient than flood irrigation. Because of that many of the farms went back to the banks and are sitting idle. I was back there a few years ago and much of the land has gone back to sage brush and other weeds. I saw very few animals; cows, sheep, lamas, horses.

USDA United states Department of Agriculture is one of those omni government agencies that is responsible for everything from farming, rural development, to welfare. Even the Forest Service is under USDA umbrella which also includes food and nutrition, food safety, animal and food inspection, marketing and research, insurance, commodity credit Corporation, SNAP. Like any government operations it seems to make most things worse for citizens.

BATF Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms. Some once remarked that would make a great store. I don’t drink or smoke so I don’t care about the first two, but they should be 3 separate agencies. Firearms needs to be cut way back. The last part of the 2nd amendment says The Right of the people to bear arms shall NOT be infringed. If you have any money invested in Black Rock or Vanguard I would take it all and move it some where else. They make massive profit on the money you invest with them and are buying up houses and renting them back. It is stuff like this that causes a shortage of houses. Biden let in at least 10 million illegal people which did not help the housing situation at all. That is more than the population than many states.

Daylight Savings should be done away with, it is a stupid idea and I am glad Arizona doesn’t follow it. Trump says it is a 50-50 issue so he wont do anything about it.

Trump has been done some of the things, getting rid of the Department of un Education. Recently he has said he will stop these companies from buying up houses and turning them into rentals. Off the top of my head I can’t think of anything he has done I have complaints about. Don’t believe anything you see on TV news, they are all notoriously leftists and have nothing good to say about Trump or conservatives.

Weather 2025 Cactus Wren

Trying to get my weather pages back up, Cactus Wren Weather pages have been down a couple years. My WiFi extender for the weather station/media computer died. I need to get a mesh router to cover the house. Now using Cumulus MX, the software downloads the weather from my Davis Vantage Pro weather station. Also having ftp issues with my hosting company Ionos I am not happy with them.

I had Weather Display before but the software kept freezing up so I switched to Cumulus MX but have not gotten it to upload. About the same time I had switched from Blue Host to Ionos and started having ftp problems.

Scott’s Missionary Testimony

I have been transcribing my missionary journals and found this which was written just after I had been out 1 year, I was in Roseville California at the time.

I Elder D Scott Scheibe have strong testimony of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It burns with in me the truthfulness of it. I have taught its doctrines and know their truth. I know Jesus is the Christ, he lives and is our Lord and Savior, that he is our mediator between us and our Heavenly Father and I know we are his spirit children and have the potential to became perfect as he is.

I know he has restored the Gospel here upon the earth in the Dispensation of the Fullness of Times, though the Prophet Joseph Smith. I know all authority and knowledge necessary for our salvation is found in this Christ Church.

I know we have a living prophet and apostles on the earth today, that they are inspired and they do receive revelation.

I know that the book of Mormon, the Doctrine and Covenants and the Pearl of Great Price are scripture in addition to the bible.

The heavens are open and we can speak to God our Heavenly father through prayers and that we can and will receive and answer if we ask in faith and sincerity.

I exhort you to study the scriptures, learn all you can of the gospel, live righteously, get married in the Temple.  

I promise if you do these things and live the gospel you will find happiness. Study and pray, gain your own testimony of the Church. You will need a strong one to carry you through life’s trials.

Once again, I say unto you this is Christ’s Only True Church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints I know it as sure as I live and I testify that to you in the name of our lord Jesus Christ. Amen

Scottsworld 2020

Scottsworld Other than changing the links menu from the side to the top there was not any real major changes. I just updated both my ancestory database and the Henry Woodward Database on the Genealogy pages on 12-30-2020. I was not sure when I had last done it and Roy Arthur Kelly II my cousin had sent me updates on his family.

WordPress made some changes and now automatically updates the plugins. Which is much appreciated, before I was weekly updating plugins more than I was actually blogging which was getting annoying. I logged in today and ran an SEO update and update my theam, which was the first time I’ve logged in to the WordPress app on my website in a couple months now.

Cactus Wren Weather Station

As part of Scottsworld also got the menu change and actually happened on the weather pages first. Forgot both also got some mobile coding so they work well on mobile devices, not that you will see the code and other than it works not notice it either. One change I am not happy about is the National Weather Service made major changes to their radar page, there are no more regional pages so I had to remove the radar graphic from the weather page because it was broken.. This is the new NWS Radar page and this is the NWS Tutorial on the new Radar page..

BTW I am officially a NWS weather spotter now. We are to report things like; tornadoes, storm damage, flooding, less than 1 mile visibility, large amounts of rain, hail and Snow. NWS SKYWARN Storm Spotter Program

Not that we get a lot of those things in Phoenix or even a big monsoon storm in the last couple years. We are down nearly 4 inches of rain for the year and the only real weather news was it was hot for a long time and we broke several heat related records. We were still hitting 100’s and 90’s into October and it did not drop below 80 until well into December. Then it went from 90 to 60’s in one week. I had to put a coat on to put up Christmas decorations because I was cold at 60.. I grew up in Colorado so I know what real cold feels like.

I am also a CoCoRaHS Community Collaborative Rain, Hail & Snow member, I have an official CoCoRaHS Rain Guage mounted on my weather station and the app on my phone to report any type of moisture we receive. Mostly this year I have cleaned dust and dead bugs out of the rain gauge. Blury thing in the corner is my finger.. Have trouble holding the phone and taking photos..

Menu changes

I have been fiddling with side menu for over a year, was having issues with when it was open it did not scroll with the page and on long pages could not be seen. I recently changed the main page on Cactus Wren to a responsive set up and the side menu in the test page broke the whole set up when opened so it was time to find something else. Cactus Wren with the new menu now will display normally as two columns of content and on mobile devices the right column drops under the left and shows as one long page.

The top menu was deployed there first and now has come to all of the website except the genealogy pages and Woodward pages. For some reason the Woodward pages do not obey the container settings and the menu is all messed up. Still have not figured out the weirdness for that. I suspect maybe something to do with the image back ground which is unique to those pages. The The Next Generation of Genealogy Sitebuilding v. 12.2, Scotts ancestors and Captain Henry Woordward’s descendants are a PHP set up like WordPress so they are a different challenges to change.

I have changed my WordPress theam to 2020 which allowed me to have a blue menu header with links. Still investigating on how to do drop down buttons on it like the rest of my site. I found the drop down buttons on WC3schools. I looked at several and there was only one that allowed me to have multiple drop down buttons with different menus some would show the first menu on child buttons and basically just plain text. I had to experiment with their menus until I found this set up.

If you have seen a lot of menu code they often involve styling list items. This has no list for the menu links and no class to style the url links either. I did have the buttons open the main URL but when using it mobile with no mouse it made it difficult to access the drop down menu so I removed the links in the buttons and now they just activate the drop down menu. It is a combination of HTML, CSS and java script to make it work. At first it was not working on the duckduckgo android browser, the buttons did not appear and the links showed on the blue background. I did not change anything and it now is working.. Works on all the browser combinations I have tried.

WordPress has been updated to the latest version. I also made a change of the fonts on the website. I have wordpress showing serif but not the Faustina variable font I picked from Google fonts yet, another change I need to research. I did that after a recent class Udemy html5 class assignment to pick 4 favorite fonts and show them in the assignment.

I have the WordPress App on my phone and just discovered it has not posted any post I made on it and saved them as drafts on my phone which makes it pretty much useless.

So I will be posting some messages I wrote as far back as 7 months ago.. I copied the drafts and saved them as new texts in my Dropbox so I can open then on my computer and post them..

Moving from Hostmonster to Bluehost

Was having issues with Hostmonster, first my sitemap program would never run to completion, talked to them 3 times about it and each time they said they fixed it and it still did not work. Very pleased it runs here on Bluehost in minutes where it ran over an hour on Hostmonster and never finished. .

Biggest reason I moved to Bluehost was this blog was hacked some how and a bunch of malware was installed on the site. Hostmonster took my site down (you may have seen “this site is suspended” if you are a regular visitor to my weather page or any other page) and wanted me to pay them $70 a month to fix it. I told them at the beginning of the chat that I would move my hosting some where else. They were not cooperative and even after I deleted the malware from the site they would not put it back up. They seem to think they could force me to pay them the $70 a month  for the service when my hosting was like $18 a month.. After chatting with them for over 2 hours I told them enough and I was moving. My hosting was up for renewal any way.

I am happy with Bluehost https://www.bluehost.com/ they have been very responsive to fix issues and as of this afternoon the last item on my major items was to get my wordpress blog back up and as you can see it is. I searched for security plugins and installed a firewall so hopefully It won’t get hacked again. Also removed all inactive themes and plugins, everything was uptodate before I got hacked so that was not the issue. WordPress had updated like two weeks before it was hacked.  But the latest Wordpess version now says the previous version had vulnerabilities .

Moving has meant some major changes. I did not put the LDS Singles pages backup, Facebook has pretty much killed email lists and there had been no post on it other than the monthly FAC sent automatically for 2 years and I have not been single for 4 or 5 years so it was time to go.

I have gotten redirection going so my urls all changed from https://scottsworld.info/weather/  to https://weather.scottsworld.info      and so on for a short time.   It is fixed now

Chased a lot of broken links where my stupid editor had not successfully global changed something or other issues. My sitemap program shows broken internal links. https://www.xml-sitemaps.com .   I do not like WeBuilder my html/css editor, but the previous software was not supported any more. I tried Dreamweaver but Adobe has this scam where they don’t sell you stuff any more. Instead they want to charge you a $30 a month usage fee each for Dreamweaver or Photoshop and their other software. It crashed while I was testing it and lost over an hours work so it got uninstalled.  Right now I am testing a freeware open source editor called Atom.  https://atom.io/

I updated TNG The Next Generation of Genealogy Sitebuilding v. 12.2  and the gedcoms into the database recently and on the move some how lost the settings for the main page, so I tested all the themes and picked the one out of 3 of the 18 available themes. I picked a photo for the page which turned out to be HUGE and was running of the page so I need some software to reduce it. I first tried the trial version of Photo shop as I  into the really only needed it once. It took forever to download and install and was still installing hours later. In the mean time I downloaded a free program, reduced the image by 50% and uploaded while Photoshop was still trying to install so I killed it and uninstalled Adobe cloud again. I would not recommend Adobe software to any one.

So the photo on the page https://genealogy.scottsworld.info/index.php  is my Parents and grandparents when my parents got married in 1963. Sad to say everyone in the Photo has passed on. My father died this summer which leaves me as the oldest remaining Scheibe in that branch of our family tree. I was 55 last spring. My mother died in 2015 from complications of alzheimers, which runs in her family, her mother and all her older siblings died of it leaving only the two youngest still alive. My father lost his only sibling, his sister to breast cancer in 2008 and both his parents from old age later that year, he has not been the same since and just gave up caring for himself.

Anyway this post was about the website and I am wondering.. Will post more later.

Some what Annoyed with the Chuch’s website..

First off when I say Church I always mean The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I had no problem with them changing the church URL from lds.org to https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/

But now they have broken all my scripture links in my pages of which there are literally thousands of them..
http://classic.scriptures.lds.org/en/1_cor/14/33#33 or any other scripture link takes you to https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/scriptures?lang=eng  So all my links to the scriptures no longer work and if you search for a particular chapter and verse on the scripture site it only takes you to the chapter now, it used to go to the verse and highlight the verses specified. Because of that I have just decided to remove ALL of them and just have the text of the scriptures which will still be there just no link back to the document referred to.

Over the years they have made changes and lost articles I had linked to so I have quit linking to them. They changed links to the gospel principles manual and chapter, I fixed all those last week. It was easy to do a find and replace for http://www.lds.org to https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org and mormon.org to comeuntochrist.org but there is no fix for what they did to the scripture pages and no easy find and replace all of them. I have to remove the links from upwards of 50 pages when you figure all of Gods Plan of Salvation, Book of Mormon pages (several) the Gospel Principles Comments and Resources files of which there are over 50, Which Church and The Bible the Only word of God pages, Come Let us Reason Together and so on. It means hours of work for me..

Photos of the weather station, been meaning to put them up for a while. Lost the photos when the site moved so had to update it. Davis Vantage Pro2 which has been calibrated by Davis, the baromter was drifting. Solar powered temperature heat shield, Solar and UV sensors, rain gauge has been updated with the new version with bird wires. CoCoRaHS – Community Collaborative Rain, Hail & Snow Network rain gauge on back of station. Cement paver path so I can get to the gauge with out walking in the mud. Weather Display software
